1. Itinerary Planning
3-Day Highlights: Day 1: Tianmen Mountain (cable car, glass skywalk, Tianmen Cave). Day 2: Forest Park East Route (Wulingyuan Gate → Ten-Mile Gallery → Bailong Elevator → Yuanjiajie, including First Bridge, Hallelujah Mountain, Soul Lost Terrace). Day 3: Golden Whip Stream + Huangshi Village, then depart.
4-Day: Add Glass Bridge or Yellow Dragon Cave. Book Glass Bridge time slot in advance; or do Yellow Dragon Cave + Baofeng Lake on day 4.
5-Day with Fenghuang: Days 1–3 as above. Day 4: Furong Ancient Town + Fenghuang. Day 5: Miao village, Tuojiang boat, night views, then leave.
2. Tickets
Forest Park: ¥228/person, 4-day pass, includes shuttle. Covers Huangshi, Golden Whip, Yuanjiajie, Tianzi, Yangjiajie, Ten-Mile Gallery. Student/senior discounts.
Tianmen Mountain: ¥278 including cable car. Route A (cable up, bus down) recommended. Book time slot in advance.
Glass Bridge: ¥219. World's highest/longest. Book time slot. Skip if afraid of heights.
Yellow Dragon Cave: ¥100. Baofeng Lake: ¥96.
3. Getting There
From Europe/US: Fly to Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou, then connect to Zhangjiajie or Changsha. From Changsha, high-speed train to Zhangjiajie West (~3.5 hr).
Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport (DYG): 5 km from downtown, 30 km from Wulingyuan. Direct flights from major Chinese cities.
Zhangjiajie West Station: High-speed rail. Changsha South ↔ Zhangjiajie West ~3.5 hr. Guangzhou South ~5 hr. Trip.com accepts international cards; 12306 often requires a Chinese phone number.
In-park: Free shuttles. Bailong Elevator ¥65, Tianzi cable car ¥72, Ten-Mile Gallery train ¥30 one-way.
4. Accommodation
Wulingyuan: Best base. Close to Forest Park east gate. Xibu Street has restaurants and nightlife. Book ahead in peak season.
Forest Park gate area: Good for west route (Golden Whip, Huangshi).
Downtown: Convenient for Tianmen and early flights/trains. ~40 min to Forest Park.
On mountain: Limited guesthouses at Tianzi/Yuanjiajie. Sunrise views but basic facilities. Book months ahead for holidays.
5. Best Season
Autumn (Sep–Nov): Clear skies, autumn colors. Best time.
Spring (Apr–May): Mild, flowers. Fewer crowds than summer.
Winter (Dec–Feb): Snow, fewer tourists, lower prices. Some cable cars may close for maintenance.
Avoid: Chinese National Day (Oct 1), Labor Day (May 1). Summer (Jul–Aug) is crowded but greenest.
6. Visa & Practical Tips
Visa: US, UK, EU citizens need a Chinese visa. 144-hour visa-free transit may apply when transiting through China to a third country (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, etc.). Verify with your embassy.
Payment: Alipay and WeChat Pay widely used. Bind via TourCard or supported international cards. Carry cash.
Tips: Wear grippy shoes. Bring rain gear. Book Tianmen and Glass Bridge time slots ahead. Forest Park 4-day pass allows multiple entries.
