One day to tick off the world's highest glass bridge and one of China's largest karst caves. Both are about 1 hr from Wulingyuan.
Morning: Grand Canyon Glass Bridge
Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge is 536 m long, 300 m above the canyon—the world's longest and highest. ¥219. Book a time slot in advance (AM or PM). Arrive at your slot; late arrivals may be turned away. Shoe covers provided. No bags or selfie sticks on the bridge. If you're afraid of heights, skip it—the bridge is transparent and the drop is real. Allow 1–2 hours including photos and the walk across.
Afternoon: Yellow Dragon Cave
Huanglong Cave (黄龙洞) is ~10 km east of Wulingyuan. ¥100–118. A 2-hour guided walk through lit stalactites, underground rivers (boat ride included), and huge chambers. All-weather—good for rainy days. Cool inside (~16°C); bring a light jacket. Tours run at set times; join the next available group.
Logistics
Do Glass Bridge first (morning slot), then taxi or bus to Yellow Dragon Cave. Or reverse: cave in the morning, Glass Bridge afternoon slot. Buses from Wulingyuan to the canyon exist but are infrequent; taxis or a private driver are easier. Pack snacks; food options near both sites are limited.
Tips
Glass Bridge slots sell out in peak season—book 3–5 days ahead. Wear grippy shoes. Yellow Dragon Cave has many steps; not ideal for those with mobility issues.
Thrills above, wonders below—a full day of contrasts.
